Introduction to the Labor and Social Security Major
Recognized as a first-class undergraduate program at the national level, it was ranked 18th in the country in the 2023 Soft Science major ranking. Aligned with the cultivation requirements of the "New Liberal Arts," the program has forged a distinctive "core social security essence + financial and economic characteristics" approach, fostering integrated talents for public service in humanistic values, professional knowledge, broad thinking, and application capabilities, with a focus on equity, sharing, and care for people's livelihoods. It is a significant hub for the cultivation of talent in labor and social security in China. The characteristics of the training program emphasize the "core social security essence + financial and economic characteristics," combining "theoretical courses + practical courses." The curriculum is built upon foundations in macroeconomics, microeconomics, demography, sociology, finance, basic accounting, labor economics, and welfare economics, and also includes core social security courses such as social security studies, social insurance, labor law and social security law, social assistance, and social welfare. The major focuses on cultivating students with a solid theoretical foundation and analytical application skills, highlighting the integration of theoretical and practical courses, making full use of short-term practical training programs, as well as internship bases in government and enterprise settings to enhance students' practical application capabilities. Employment directions include government (labor and social security departments, etc.), public institutions (medical and health institutions, medical insurance departments, etc.), various financial institutions (banks, insurance companies, etc.), and enterprises (human resources specialists, etc.). The social security major has a relatively large scale for graduate recruitment, and in recent years, the program has maintained a high rate of graduate school admission (with a postgraduate and study abroad ratio accounting for more than 1/3).
